Story
The Potion Master
Carina set
vials and a potion book all on the table next to her cauldron to prepare for
the special potion she was about to brew. She nodded in pride as it had taken
her quite a while to get all of the ingredients for it. She checked her book
and nodded, the first step was to get some water boiling which he had already
done beforehand, so now all she needed to do was follow the steps.
She
easily added the first few ingredients to the cauldron, which were just some
herbs she’d been collected over a few weeks, and followed the instructions on
what to add next, which way she had to stir the brew, and how long to wait
before she could move on. It didn’t take long before she was able to add the
final ingredient, which was a specialty liquid that was the hardest for her to
get, but the most crucial part of her potion. Without it, the potion surely
would not work.
She
opened the vial and carefully leaned over the cauldron to pour the smallest little
drop she could into it. With her eyes knitted in concentration, and her tongue
sticking out, the droplet finally fell into the potion. In just mere seconds,
the concoction exploded in her face. She blinked a few times and then shook the
soot out of her hair.
Why didn’t
it work?! It was supposed to work! She pouted and then decided to try again.
She stood a little further away from the cauldron this time and leaned over to
pour in the drop. Right as she did, she stepped away a little farther, but the
potion exploded once again; she was still just close enough to get some of the
blast on her.
This
time, extremely frustrated, she got a long instrument to hold onto the vial to
pour the drop in from a greater distance away while behind a chair. She concentrated
hard and slowly poured the drop in, but the cauldron exploded yet again and
reached all of the way to the chair where she was trying to hide.
She got
very angry this time and stood up to stop over to the cauldron, kick it, and angrily
pour all the remainder of the liquid into the cauldron and threw the vial on
the ground. She was breathing heavy out of her anger, but then calmed down once
she realized that the cauldron had not exploded this time. Curious, she snuck up
closer to the cauldron to take a look, and it had changed to the exact color
that the book said it would.
She
checked the book again and wasn’t sure how it worked since the recipe called
for only a really small amount of the last ingredient, but she was happy that
her potion was finally finished as it should be. She looked at her concoction
once again and rubbed her hands together and smirked mischievously before
taking out two glasses that she filled with the potion. She left them on the
kitchen table with a lone card that said “For Mom and Dad, love Carina.”

Character Writing Assignment
Character Backstory
Carina is a cute, seven year old
witch girl and is the youngest of her many siblings. Since she’s the youngest,
she is always seen as “the baby” of the family and is also treated as such no
matter what she says or does. She is quite skilled at potion brewing and simple
spells for her age, but because she is so young and has many siblings, her
skills are usually ignored; and if they aren’t, they’re always seen as childish
instead of skillful.
She hates being called the baby and she hates
being called cute despite how adorable she is. She does not want to be cute,
she wants to be feared by everyone.
Her dream when she grows up is to
be an evil sorceress and to live in a dark castle with all of her henchmen and
maybe even a dragon, and to become the most feared witch in all of the magical
land, but it’s hard to be feared when everyone thinks you’re too cute to do
anything bad. So her dream seems nearly impossible considering how no one ever
takes her seriously.
She could blatantly say that she
wanted to turn all of her family into toads and use them for experiments and
they would all just laugh it off and talk about how cute or silly she was
being, or how “kids say the darndest things”, but in reality, she had meant
every word. If the moment arose, she wouldn’t hesitate to transform all of them
into her henchmen and then maybe they would all finally see her true potential
as a witch.
Down the road, however, she’ll begin to realize
that her cuteness is actually not a bad thing at all and she’ll start to use
that to her own advantage.

Toll Booth
Carina had finally managed to
figure out the perfect spell to enchant her mom’s car to drive it the Magical
Herb Shoppe in the next town over without getting caught, but she had to hurry
because her parents would be home in an hour and she didn’t want them to know
of her secret plans. Not that they would really do anything if they found out,
they’d probably just think she was brewing a nonsense potion, but she still
wanted to get there and get there fast.
The car drove recklessly through
the city streets, nearly running people over, but she paid no mind to it and
just made the car drive as fast as she wanted it to, that is until she reached
a line of cars waiting for something and the car stopped itself.
Hey, what’s the big idea?!” She
yelled at the car who suddenly had a mind of its own. She looked out the
window; right, the toll booth! She totally forgot about that!
She didn’t bring any money with her
to pay to get through, but no matter, she could just ram the car through easy. Carina
waved her wand and tried to floor the gas pedal, but the car wouldn’t listen
and she had to keep waving her wand until it worked. Still, the car ended up
not doing what she wanted until all of the cars ahead of her were through the
booth.
“Ugh, how annoying. I don’t wanna
wait for these slow pokes to get through stupid way.”
She waited impatiently for the line
to shorten and happily floored the gas pedal again. The car broke through
without any problems and she continued on her way to the Magical Herb Shoppe,
hoping she wouldn’t come across any more delays.
